US Jobless Claims Tick Up as Productivity Jumps

US initial claims for unemployment benefits rose by 6,000 to 227,000 in the week ending July 29. The median estimate in a Bloomberg survey of economists called for 225,000 applications. Productivity Increased at a 3.7% annual rate in the second quarter. Mike McKee reports on “Bloomberg Surveillance.”
